Welcome! This website is going to cover world-building – for stories, fun, or learning – in a sort of “scientific” way. We’ll cover aspects like star types (Sol, our sun, is a G2), figuring out what the moon(s) look like from the planet based on their distance, and even take a look at developing life. This is as much a science lesson as it is a way to build a “scientifically accurate” planet, but there’s plenty of room for fun! You can be as particular or as free as you like with everything presented here, and you can start from any point really. Don’t care about what type of star the sun is? Skip that section! Just want to figure out tectonic plates and weather patterns? Head straight there.
Building Beyond The Surface
We’re not just going to cover how to build out a solar system and planet(s), we’ll also be covering building cultures for sapient beings, their histories, and many other aspects. Like building out the geography of the world, feel free to skip around. Everything here is just to inspire you, nothing is meant as a “rule”, not even a “guideline”! I’ll also cover elements of world building that I really love, like creating languages. Since there are some truly exceptional works out there that are far better guides than I could write about all the “how-tos” I’ll mostly be presenting my own creations here as examples, with links to the resources I used.
Example World
For these “lessons” I’ll be using a world long in the making, called Atreysa (Ah-TRAY-uh-sah). I’ll go over everything from the solar system I built to creating the geography and determining aspects of the planet like where mountains formed and where rain falls more or less heavily. Then we’ll take a look at the various people groups and countries, their histories and cultures, and of course some of the animals as well.
